Swansea City concluded their pre-season with a 0-0 stalemate against La Liga side Deportivo La Corunā at the Liberty on Saturday.

The Swans got off to a blistering start, as Wayne Routledge found himself one on one with the keeper after a threaded through ball played the winger in, but as soon as he rounded the keeper, he was flagged for offside.

On five minutes, Bafe Gomis left a ball from the right go through his legs for Andre Ayew to shoot, but his effort was blocked. From the resulting corner, Jack Cork’s headed effort was held by Fabricio in the Deportivo goal.

Jonjo Shelvey came close with a thunderbolt of an effort from 25 yards which flew just over the bar on the half an hour mark. He then drilled a cross in from the right seven minutes later but the keeper tipped it away.

Just before the half ended, Ki Sung-Yueng squared a ball for Ayew, but a defender cleared the ball away before the Frenchman could get a touch on it.

After the break, the home side provided numerous crosses from the left hand side but the forwards just couldn’t get the final touch needed to guide it home.

The Spanish side then began pressing forward themselves and Miguel Cardoso drilled an effort just wide of the post on 65 minutes. Oriol Riera then headed a cross from the right just wide.

Deportivo had claims for a handball turned down with 20 minutes remaining, but the ball fell in a good area from the deflection and the away side had a shot on goal but from close range, Lukasz Fabianski brilliantly denied the visitors. Chaos ensued as the away side surrounded the referee, asking for a penalty.

The best chance of the game fell for Ki with 10 minutes remaining, as the central midfielder found himself one on one with the keeper, but his effort was saved.

Jefferson Montero was a constant threat down the left in the second half after his introduction and his cross in the final 10 minutes was deflected wide, and then late on he provided a cross into a good area, but again no one was there to meet it.

In the dying embers of the game, new signing Eder broke away down the right but a defender brought the striker down unfairly. The frontman then played a ball centrally for Ki a minute later, and the Korean curled it over from 25 yards.

Bright moments came in bursts and Garry Monk can be pleased that his defence stayed resolute throughout. However, he will be hoping his side can play with a more consistent flow in their Premier League opener against Chelsea on August 8th.
